1.4031 / 420 Stainless Steel:

  A cost effective choice for most folding knife applications. Offers good corrosion resistance and reliable performance across a wide range of handle materials and liner configurations.

Si3N4 Grade 10 Silicon Nitride Ceramic:

  The preferred choice for high end builds. Silicon nitride ceramic provides superior hardness, near zero friction and excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for builders who want the smoothest possible action and maximum long term wear resistance.

Tip:

For a 2mm detent ball use a 1.9mm drill bit to create a press fit hole, then press the ball in using an arbor press or a flat punch and small hammer. A good starting point for protrusion is 0.356mm above the liner surface.

For an accurate press depth, a feeler gauge blade makes an excellent depth stop. Most feeler gauge sets allow the individual blades to be removed from the set. Select the 0.356mm blade and place the hole in the feeler guage over the detent ball before pressing. This keeps the ball from flying off and gives you a repeatable, accurate press depth every time. Test the action and adjust the depth as needed.
